Underfoot Feel

The Clifton 9 contain soft cushioning in the midsole. However, two specific HOKA technologies can significantly help to increase comfort.

An early stage MetaRocker™ compliments your natural running style and should help you to move efficiently through the gait cycle. The expectation is that this will help reduce pressure on the lower leg area.
HOKA's Active Foot Frame™ works in a similar fashion to the bucket seat in a race car. It means that your feet sit in the midsole; not on top of it. This helps to provide stability for your feet.

While the Clifton 9 are neutral running shoes, their design geometry helps to provide a stable platform from which to land and push off from.

If you are interested in how these should compare to the Clifton 8, please note that the Clifton 9 is lighter and has more foam in the midsole. The increased stack height means more cushioning.

Upper Fit

The Clifton 9 has an engineered knit upper which provides breathability. The gusseted tongue prevents the tongue from moving out of position.

The material on the upper sits close to your feet. If you have broader feet - you may wish to choose the wide version of the Clifton 9.

HOKA only converts the women's size from US to UK by one and a half sizes. Most running brands convert it by two full sizes. We recommend choosing your normal US running shoe size.

Ideal Run Type

The HOKA Women's Clifton 9 Road Running Shoes are best for your daily training runs. By this, we mean road runs at slower to steady paces.

Shoe size is a personal preference and everyone's feet are different, but we want to ensure you avoid any pain or discomfort from bruised toenails, rubbing, blistering or pins and needles.

Your running shoes should have enough width to allow you to spread your toes and should have some space at the front (we recommend having a half to one thumb's width of space from the end of your longest toe to the front of your running shoes).

This usually means that your running shoe will be at least a half size bigger than your regular shoe size though this can vary from brand to brand.
